Selkie in the Seaweed Ornament/ Figurine

Selkie in the Seaweed Ornament/ Figurine

A hand-sculpted ornament made of speckled stoneware clay, inspired by the Selkies (seal people) of Scottish folklore, swimming amongst the seaweeds.

There's a traditional tale that seals come from the aurora when the dancers in the sky sometimes fall to earth. They transform into seals when they fall and then swim and dance amongst the seaweed as they used to dance with the northern lights.

The details on the seal and the seaweed details are hand painted using high fire pigments, details scratched into the clay using a technique known as Sgraffito, and the piece is finished with a transparent glossy glaze.

Approximately 4.5cm high x 7.5cm long.

You will receive the exact selkie ornament pictured.

Handmade in my cosy garden studio in Perthshire, with my pottery dog at my side.
